Baseball Game Preview: Daphne Trojans vs. West Florida Jaguars

The Daphne Trojans will venture away from home to challenge the West Florida Jaguars at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Daphne's hitters haven't had much luck over their past four matchups, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Daphne came up short against Niceville on Friday, falling 11-2.

Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but West Florida ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They had just enough and edged out Jay 11-10. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Jaguars, who until this contest were averaging 2.18 runs allowed.

Gabe Venable made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 4-for-5. That's the most runs he has posted since back in February.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Dax Robbins, who scored three runs while going 5-for-5. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in runs. Adam Geiger also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

West Florida kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Daphne's loss dropped their record down to 1-4. As for West Florida, their record is now 10-1.

Daphne skirted past West Florida 12-11 in their previous meeting back in March of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for Daphne since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
