League recap: Whitley dominating on the mound for Cleveland

3A Eastern Carolina league recap: 3/13/13

Cleveland's Kodi Whitley was the best pitcher in 3A Eastern Carolina this week. Over the past week, he had one win and 11 Ks.

Southern Wayne had a successful week, as it won three total games to lead the league. The Saints beat Triton 8-1 and Greene Central 10-0.

C.B. Aycock gave up the fewest hits in the league over the past week (four), but North Lenoir has surrendered a league-fewest 11 base hits over the entire season.

Eight batters hit over .400 this week. Leading the pack was Noah West, who hit .667 by going 4-for-6.

The Rams' Whitley led the league in strikeouts this week with 11. With 20 strikeouts this year so far, he ranks first in the league.



Matthew Webb was an RBI machine on Wednesday, as he knocked in four runs during the Hawks' 24-1 win over Westover. He went 1-for-1 and scored two runs.

Cleveland's Whitley struck out 11 the Hawks hitters en route to a 5-1 victory on March 5. Over seven innings of work, he gave up four hits and one run.
