Game recap: Macias throws for four touchdowns in Chavez's victory over Millennium

Arturo Macias threw for four touchdowns as Chavez (Laveen, Ariz.) defeated Millennium (Goodyear, Ariz.) 39-10 on Saturday.

After taking the lead on a touchdown run by Macias in the second quarter, the Champions led 26-10 at the half.

Chavez expanded its lead to 23 points entering the fourth quarter. CHS's lone score in the quarter came on a defensive touchdown.

Macias and Rodrick Griffin teamed up to form a dynamic passing combination. Griffin has now caught three touchdowns this season, while Macias has thrown 18.



The Laveen school's standout player in the win was Macias. The senior quarterback ran for one touchdown and kicked one extra point. He has now scored eight touchdowns on the season.

Brandon Keller played well for the Tigers. The senior quarterback threw one touchdown.

Millennium's lone touchdown came on a 40-yard pass from Keller to Nick Dodde in the first quarter.

The Champions came into the game allowing 5.0 points per game. MHS's 10 points were well below its season average of 25.4 per game.

Last season's game between the teams resulted in a 37-30 win for Chavez.

The defeat comes as a step back for Millennium, which notched a 20-19 victory over Deer Valley in its previous outing. The loss snapped the Goodyear school's 3-game winning streak.



In a II Section I game next week Millennium (4-2) takes on Independence, and Chavez (6-0) will go up against Camelback also in a II Section I game.
