Walden Grove has gone 8-2 against Amphitheater recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Wednesday. The Walden Grove Red Wolves will take on the Amphitheater Panthers at 4:00 p.m. Amphitheater took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Walden Grove, who comes in off a win.
Walden Grove made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Flowing Wells, but they still couldn't quite topple them. Walden Grove was the clear victors by a 13-1 margin over Flowing Wells two weeks ago. That looming 13-1 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Red Wolves yet this season.
Oliviah Valdez and Maya Vivas were a major factor no matter where they played. On the mound, Valdez didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. Meanwhile, Vivas tossed two innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. What's more, Valdez gave up only zero walks, the fewest she's had since back in March of 2024. At the plate, Valdez scored a run while going 3-for-4, while Vivas went 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one double. That's the most hits Valdez has posted since back in March of 2024.
In other batting news, Walden Grove let Natalie Holzer and Isabel Higuera run wild. Holzer went 2-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one double, while Higuera scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4. That's the most RBI Holzer has posted since back in February of 2024. Liana Acuna was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-2.
Walden Grove hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Flowing Wells struck out eight times.
Meanwhile, Amphitheater came up short against Thatcher on Wednesday, falling 22-1. The Panthers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Talisa Yrigolla made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run and one double.
Walden Grove has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 3-3 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. Amphitheater's loss dropped their record down to 1-4.
Amphitheater's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Walden Grove hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .377. It's a different story for Amphitheater, though, as they've only averaged .222. Will they be able to contain Walden Grove's hitters?
Everything went Walden Grove's way against Amphitheater in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, as Walden Grove made off with a 12-3 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Walden Grove since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
