The North Crawford Trojans will challenge the Weston Silver Eagles at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. North Crawford's pitching crew has only allowed 4.1 runs per game this season, so Weston's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
North Crawford managed to slip by De Soto the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Trojans lost 7-0 to the Pirates on Thursday. The Trojans' loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.
Meanwhile, Weston came tearing into Thursday's matchup with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They blew past the Panthers 17-0. Give the Silver Eagles' pitching crew some credit: that's the team's fifth straight shutout.
Isaac Jennings and Trevor Westphal made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Jennings didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out nine over four innings pitched. Meanwhile, Westphal pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Jennings has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. At the plate, Jennings went 2-for-3 with one home run and three RBI, while Westphal went 2-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. Those three RBI gave Westphal a new career-high.
In other batting news, Weston let Gavin Kast and Hunter Coy run wild. Kast went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one double, and one RBI, while Coy went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. That double was Kast's first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Garrett Jennings, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.
Weston always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .684. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Weston's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-4. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.0 runs on average over those games. As for North Crawford, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-4.
North Crawford couldn't quite finish off Weston when the teams last played back in April and fell 4-2. Can the Trojans avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
