Basketball Preview: Four Corners Coyotes vs. Lakeland Christian Vikings
The Four Corners Coyotes will square off against the Lakeland Christian Vikings at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Hopefully Four Corners focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 19 on Thursday.
Last Thursday, Four Corners was the victim of a rough 59-34 loss at the hands of the Eagles. Four Corners has not had much luck with the Eagles recently, as the team's come up short the last three times they've met.
The losing side was boosted by Karina Cruz, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 11 rebounds. She is on a roll when it comes to points, as she's now scored 15 or more in the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Mia Villanueva, who scored four points along with five assists and five rebounds.
Meanwhile, Lakeland Christian was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Thursday as they fell 38-33 to the Wildcats. Lakeland Christian has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Collette Zavada, who scored eight points along with five assists. Kiya Boyce was another key contributor, scoring two points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Four Corners now has a losing record at 8-9. As for Lakeland Christian, they have not been sharp recently as the team's lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 12-8 record this season.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Four Corners have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 35.2 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Lakeland Christian struggles in that department as they've been averaging 31.8 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Four Corners beat the Vikings 47-35 in their previous meeting back in December of 2022. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Lakeland Christian's Kylah Blough, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 13 rebounds. Now that she won't be playing on Monday, will it be that much easier for Four Corners to walk away with another win? There's only one way to find out.
