Softball Recap: Westfall Takes a Loss

Westfall and Piketon pushed the score to 11-8 the last time they played Piketon, but on Friday defenses reigned supreme. The Mustangs fell just short of the Redstreaks by a score of 2-1. The loss continues a trend for the Mustangs in their meetings with the Redstreaks: they've now lost three in a row.

Jill Butcher was cooking despite her team's loss, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one stolen base and one RBI. That stolen base marked the first that she snagged this season. Kenzie Cook was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-2.

Westfall's defeat was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 3-4. As for Piketon, their victory was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 8-1.

Looking ahead, Westfall will challenge Lynchburg-Clay at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Lynchburg-Clay's pitching crew has only allowed 3.3 runs per game this season, so Westfall's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Piketon, they will face off against Adena at 5:15 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Redstreaks 3.2, the Warriors 3.4) so any runs scored will be well earned.
