Baseball Game Preview: West Covina Bulldogs vs. Rowland Raiders

For the second straight game, West Covina will face off against Rowland. The Bulldogs will be playing at home against the Raiders at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday.

On Tuesday, West Covina needed a bit of extra time to put away Rowland. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Raiders 5-3. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Bulldogs.

Marcus Mayweather made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has become a key player for West Covina: the team is undefeated when he allows at most one hit, but 8-9 otherwise. Mayweather was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-3. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March.

In other pitching news, Michael Gutierrez looked comfortable as he pitched four innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances.

Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Andrew Maldonado, who went 1-for-4 with one home run. Marciano Ramirez was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.

West Covina lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

West Covina's win bumped their record up to 12-9. As for Rowland, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-12.
