Softball Recap: Goshen Central Gladiators vs. Middletown Middie Bears
Goshen Central proved they can win big on Tuesday (they won by seven) and on Wednesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They had just enough and edged out the Middletown Middie Bears 5-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Gladiators have posted since April 25th.
Anna Mayo spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned runs on six hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Marley Northrup was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Sophia Springer, who went 3-for-4 with two runs and one double.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Goshen Central kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Middletown only managed six hits.
Goshen Central's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-4. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Middletown, their loss dropped their record down to 8-8.
Looking ahead, Goshen Central will venture away from home to square off against Monroe-Woodbury at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Crusaders will roll in looking for their sixth straight victory, something the Gladiators surely won't give up without a fight. Middletown does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
