Football Recap: Mount Olive Extends Winning Streak to Three

After losing to Chatham the last time they met, Mount Olive decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Marauders blew past the Cougars 54-28 on Friday. Fans of the Marauders have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 20+ points.

Mount Olive's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Frank Gallo, who rushed for 45 yards and one TD, and also threw for 91 yards and one touchdown while completing 72.7% of his passes. Tommy Canning got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something Mount Olive proved: they limited Chatham to a paltry 2.3 yards per carry. The team can thank Liam Shelton for the heroic effort on defense: he. Mount Olive didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 10.3.

Special teams also deserves some recognition, posting 11 points in total. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Brayden Longo, who ran a punt back for a touchdown.

Chatham's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ryan Hogan, who threw for 269 yards and three TDs. Michael MacAniff was Hogan's top target, picking up 36 receiving yards and a pair of scores.

The win (which was Mount Olive's third in a row) raised their record to 3-0. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 44.0 points this season. As for Chatham, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 2-1.
