Soccer Game Preview: Sweeny vs. Stafford

The Sweeny Bulldogs will take on the Stafford Spartans at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The two teams each escaped with close wins against their previous opponents.

Sweeny took a four-goal loss the last time they faced off against Columbia, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Bulldogs' defense stepped up to hand the Roughnecks a 1-0 shutout on Thursday. Sweeny's winning goal came courtesy of Eva Murphy.

Meanwhile, Stafford hadn't done well against Brazosport recently (they were 1-7-1 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The Spartans skirted past the Exporters 1-0. The win was a breath of fresh air for Stafford as it put an end to their three-match losing streak.

Stafford's victory bumped their record up to 4-8. As for Sweeny, their win bumped their record up to 8-6-1.

Sweeny got the 'W' when the teams last played back in January against Stafford by a conclusive 6-2 score. Will the Bulldogs repeat their success, or do the Spartans have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
