Volleyball Game Preview: Shaktoolik Wolverines vs. Koyuk Malimiut Malemutes

The Shaktoolik Wolverines are taking a road trip to challenge the Koyuk Malimiut Malemutes at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Shaktoolik will be strutting in after a win while Koyuk Malimiut will be coming in after a defeat.

Shaktoolik is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Alaska's top teams: White Mountain, who was ranked 23rd at the time (Shaktoolik was ranked 13th). The Wolverines walked away with a 3-1 victory over the Wolves on Friday. The game was the first time the Wolverines have beaten the Wolves on their court since October 26, 2019.

Meanwhile, Koyuk Malimiut came up short against White Mountain on Friday, falling 3-0. The Malemutes haven't had much luck with the Wolves recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.

While Koyuk Malimiut was kept off the board, it wasn't for a lack of trying: they cut into White Mountain's winning margin in every set. The match finished with set scores of 25-12, 25-14, 25-21.

Koyuk Malimiut's loss dropped their record down to 7-2. As for Shaktoolik, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-2 record this season.

Shaktoolik came out on top in a nail-biter against Koyuk Malimiut in their previous matchup back in April of 2021, sneaking past 3-2. Do the Wolverines have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Malemutes turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
