Softball Recap: Pinellas Park Turns Things Around After Road Loss

There's no place like home for Pinellas Park, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Tuesday. They put the hurt on the Lakewood Spartans with a sharp 17-2 victory on Wednesday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Patriots considering their two-run performance the game before.

Madison Wagner was a standout: she scored three runs while going 3-for-3. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in doubles (two). Another player making a difference was Bella Birge, who went 2-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple.

Pinellas Park always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .690. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Pinellas Park is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-8 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.8 runs over those games. As for Lakewood, they are on a 22-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-11.

Pinellas Park and Lakewood could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings. The Patriots will take on Palm Harbor University at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday with a big rank disadvantage (315 vs. 53). Meanwhile, Lakewood (ranked 501st) will meet Dunedin (ranked 131st) at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
