Recap: Roosevelt Roughriders vs. Coolidge Colts

On Friday, the Roosevelt Roughriders faced the Coolidge Colts in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Roosevelt opened the new year with a less-than-successful 68-55 loss to Coolidge. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Roosevelt in their matchups with Coolidge: they've now lost five in a row.

Roosevelt lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Simmons Taniesha, who scored 16 points along with seven assists and five steals. Another player making a difference was Alexandra Fussell, who scored 14 points.

Josslyn Derricott continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Coolidge, dropping a double-double on 24 points and 15 rebounds. Derricott hasn't dropped below 15points for four straight games. Jaylyn Derricott was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with 14 rebounds and four blocks.

Roosevelt's loss dropped their record down to 6-5. As for Coolidge, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-7.

Roosevelt will be staying on the road on Wednesday to face off against Jackson-Reed at 5:30 p.m. on January 10th. Jackson-Reed is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 50.5 points per game. As for Coolidge, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Banneker at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in District of Columbia (Banneker is ranked ninth, while Coolidge is ranked tenth).
