Basketball Recap: Mayer Takes a Loss

Mayer lost against Grand Canyon back in February of 2022 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Mayer Wildcats came up short against the Grand Canyon Phantoms, falling 49-29. The Wildcats' loss continues a trend for the squad, making it four in a row.

Aspyn Colquitt was Mayer's leading scorer, having posted 11 points. Larissa Dodge held things down on the boards with nine rebounds.

Jaemie Jensen was her usual excellent self, dropping a triple-double on 28 points, 14 boards, and 17 steals for Grand Canyon. That makes it 16 consecutive games in which Jensen has scored at least a third of Grand Canyon's points. Amelia Walls was another key player, putting up four points along with seven blocks and five rebounds.

Mayer's defeat dropped their record down to 7-13. As for Grand Canyon, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-9.

Mayer wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 38-34 loss against Anthem Prep on the 22nd. Grand Canyon has also already played their next matchup (against Red Rock), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
