Baseball Recap: Pershing County Comes Up Short

Pershing County extended their losing streak to eight on Saturday, dropping their season record down to 5-15 in the process. They came up short against the Battle Mountain Longhorns, falling 13-5. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Longhorns this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 9-2 on Tuesday.

Ayden Montes made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. He has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last five times he's played.

As for Battle Mountain, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 9-10 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.4 runs over those games.

On Battle Mountain's side, Jacob Perrone made a big impact no matter where he played. He struck out 13 batters over seven innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off eight hits. Those 13 strikeouts gave Perrone a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 3-for-5 with one run and one RBI.

In other batting news, Daniel Lara was incredible, going 4-for-5 with three runs and two RBI. He has become a key player for Battle Mountain: the team is 3-1 when he posts at least three hits, but 6-9 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Angel Guadarrama, who went 1-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Battle Mountain beat Pershing County by a score of 8-6 later that day.
