Softball Recap: Richmond Victorious

Richmond barely beat Southern Lee the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. Richmond's pitcher stepped up to hand Southern Lee a 16-0 shutout on Friday. The high-scoring effort was just what the Raiders needed considering they were shut out in their previous matchup.

Madee Pearson looked comfortable as she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out seven over four innings pitched. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-low in earned runs (zero).

On the hitting side, Jakayla Steele was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Hayden Robinson was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.

Richmond kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are 5-2 when they post 11 or more hits.

Richmond's win bumped their record up to 5-8. As for Southern Lee, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-9.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Richmond will square off against Pinecrest at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Pinecrest has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 13.17 runs per game on average), something Richmond will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Southern Lee, they will face off against Riverside Christian Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Riverside Christian Academy will roll in looking for their sixth straight victory, something Southern Lee surely won't give up without a fight.
