Basketball Recap: Mancos Takes a Loss

Mancos was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their 12th straight defeat dating back to last season. They came up short against the Nucla Mustangs, falling 58-32. While losing is never fun, the Bluejays can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 317th, while the Mustangs are ranked 89th).

Leading Nucla to victory were Brycen Rummel and Slade Gillen. Rummel dropped a double-double on 13 points and 17 rebounds, while Gillen dropped a double-double on 13 points and 12 boards. Rummel has been hot for a while, having also posted two or more steals the last 27 times he's played. Another player making a difference was Austin Garvey, who posted nine points and six rebounds.

Mancos' loss dropped their record down to 0-11. As for Nucla, their win was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 8-3.

Mancos will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Dove Creek at 3:00 p.m. Mancos is facing Dove Creek at the right time seeing as Dove Creek is stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Nucla, they will head out to face off against Ouray at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Nucla is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 55.6 points per game this season.
