Basketball Recap: Avalon Beats Lanham Christian for Their Fifth Straight Win

Avalon had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 22.8 points) and they went ahead and made it five on Saturday. They came out on top against the Lanham Christian Lions by a score of 77-69. The win was all the more spectacular given the Black Knights' disadvantage in MaxPreps' Maryland basketball rankings (they are ranked 103rd, while the Lions are ranked 31st).

Avalon was led to victory by Toran Ayana and Jordan Fox. Ayana dropped a double-double on 29 points and 15 rebounds, while Fox posted 21 points along with six assists and six boards. Fox is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last 11 games he's played. Another player making a difference was Luke Arulefela, who earned seven points in addition to seven assists and six rebounds.

Several Lions players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Naz Joy, who put up 18 points and six boards. Brandon Williams was another key player, putting up 14 points and six rebounds.

Avalon is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 11-9 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 72.9 points per game. As for Lanham Christian, their defeat ended a seven-game streak of away wins and brought them to 17-5.

Avalon will venture away from home to take on Covenant Life at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Lanham Christian, they will host King's Christian Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Lanham Christian knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past 17 games -- so hopefully King's Christian Academy likes a good challenge.
