Basketball Game Preview: Mays Raiders vs. Wesleyan Wolves

The Mays Raiders and the Wesleyan Wolves will round out the year against one another at at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Mays has four straight wins, Wesleyan has six straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the court.

Last Saturday, Mays strolled past Osborne with points to spare, taking the game 76-58. Given the Raiders' advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 70th, while the Cardinals are ranked 348th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Mays' victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Germani Wilson, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 25 boards. Wilson has been hot recently, having posted 11 or more rebounds the last four times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Davenport Cox, who went 9 of 17 on his way to 22 points and eight rebounds.

Mays smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 20 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 30 consecutive games dating back to last season.

Meanwhile, Wesleyan might have been a little too into the holiday spirit, gifting Discovery an easy 59-35 win.

Mays is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 9-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 75.8 points per game. As for Wesleyan, their loss dropped their record down to 2-7.
