Baseball Game Preview: Montbello Warriors vs. Thomas Jefferson Spartans

The Montbello Warriors will head out on the road to challenge the Thomas Jefferson Spartans at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with four consecutive losses for Montbello and seven for Thomas Jefferson.

Saturday just wasn't the day for Montbello's offense. They came up short against Denver East on Saturday, falling 10-0. Considering the last time the Warriors couldn't score was back in April, the team can't take the result too hard.

George Washington hit Thomas Jefferson with a four-run first inning on Saturday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Spartans lost 10-1 to the Patriots.

Thomas Jefferson saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Shepard Schneider, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

Montbello's loss dropped their record down to 6-16. As for Thomas Jefferson, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-18.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Montbello has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.1 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Thomas Jefferson struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6.8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.

Montbello might still be hurting after the 9-3 loss they got from Thomas Jefferson in their previous matchup back in April. Can the Warriors avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
