Softball Recap: Make It Five in a Row for Austin

Austin had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7 runs) and they went ahead and made it five on Saturday. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 9-8 W against the Brewer Patriots. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Black Bears have posted since April 5th.

Khalilah Mason was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing four bases while going 4-for-4. Those four stolen bases gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Arden Breedlove, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.

Austin was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .393. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .321 or higher in seven consecutive matches.

Austin pushed their record up to 29-12-1 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Brewer, with the loss, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 13-11-1.

Coming up, Austin will take on James Clemens at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Brewer, they will head out on the road to challenge East Limestone at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
