Softball Recap: Cypress Comes Up Short

Cypress blew Esperanza out of the water the last time the pair played, but on Thursday Esperanza got their revenge. Cypress fell just short of Esperanza by a score of 4-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Centurions have suffered since March 16, 2024.

Sanaiyah 'Naya' Cleland was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one home run. That home run marked the first that she launched this season. Another player making a difference was Makayla Bishop, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4.

Cypress is on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 10-6. Even worse, they were so close so many times: the defeats came by an average of only 2.4 runs. As for Esperanza, their victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 4-8.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Cypress will challenge Pacifica at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Esperanza, they will face off against Santiago at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. Santiago's pitching crew has only allowed 3.8 runs per game this season, so Esperanza's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
