Erica Romero of Santiago tops list of state's top large-school softball players.

Erica Romero led Santiago to the Southern Section Division 1 title while posting a 0.74 ERA. For that she is the California Large Schools Softball Player of the Year.

Erica Romero, who won 30 games in leading Santiago (Corona) to the Southern Section Division 1 championship for the second time in three seasons, has been named MaxPreps Large Schools Player of the Year.
Romero, a senior who has signed with San Diego State, posted a 0.74 ERA and struck out 274 on the season. She allowed eight runs in five playoff victories.
The players on the Large Schools All-State Team are selected from schools who participate in enrollment divisions generally larger than 2,000 students.

P - Erica Romero, Santiago (Corona), SeniorRomero won 30 of 35 decisions with a 0.74 ERA and 274 strikeouts for a Santiago team that won the CIF SS D-1 final. Romero, who will play at San Diego State, also was the winning pitcher as a sophomore in 2011 in the CIF SS D-1 final.
P - Johanna Grauer, Amador Valley (Pleasanton), Junior

Grauer was 22-2 with a 0.08 ERA and only two earned runs allowed, 39 hits in 152 innings with 274 strikeouts. Grauer pitched four no-hitters and eight one-hitters. At the plate, she hit .328. She will play on the Swedish National team this summer and has committed to Arizona State.
P - Miranda Viramontes, Chino, JuniorThe CIF-SS D2 player of the year won 21 consecutive games to finish the season, posting a 0.36 ERA during the regular season. She allowed two runs in five postseason games. She finished with five no-hitters, six one-hitters and 15 shutouts. She has committed to Utah.
P - Emily Oestreich, Vintage (Napa), SophomoreOestrich led the Crushers to the Sac Joaquin D1 title by winning 33 games without a loss. She posted a 1.50 ERA, and fanned 299 batters in 215 innings. She was named Monticello Empire League's Pitcher of the Year.
P - Taylor McQuillin, Mission Viejo, SophomoreMcQuillin led the Diablos to a second straight South Coast League title and went 25-2 with a 1.01 ERA and 266 strikeouts in 173 innings. She recorded 13 shutouts and had 17 games with 10 strikeouts or more. McQuillin was the South Coast League co-MVP and also hit .416 with eight homers and 22 RBIs. She has committed to Oklahoma State.
P - Kaylee Carlson, Pacifica (Garden Grove), JuniorSlowed by early season injuries, Carlson posted a 19-1 record and a 0.62 ERA. She struck out 138 in 124 innings. The Orange County Register's Pitcher of the Year has committed to North Carolina.
P - Paige Von Sprecken, Yorba Linda, JuniorVon Sprecken was the Empire League MVP. She was 24-4 with a 0.96 ERA, 220 strikeouts with only 21 walks in 168 innings. She tossed 11 shutouts and three no-hitters. She hit .316 with three home runs, 10 doubles and 23 RBIs. She has committed to the University of San Diego.
P - Tera Blanco, Marina (Huntington Beach), JuniorBlanco compiled a record of 25-4. In 190 innings, she allowed 19 earned runs, struck out 229 and had an ERA of 0.70. Blanco hit .420 and had five home runs and 20 RBIs. She held .654 slugging and .550 on-base percentages. She was the Sunset League's MVP and named to the All-Southern Section team. She has committed to Michigan.
P - Rachel Nasland, Torrey Pines (San Diego), SeniorThe Notre Dame-bound Nasland was named the San Diego Union-Tribune's Player of the Year. She went 19-7 with a 0.66 ERA and had 307 strikeouts in 180 1/3 innings.
P - Megan Sabbatini, San Benito (Hollister), SeniorSlowed by an early-season injury, Sabbatini led San Benito to its eighth straight CIF Central Coast Section D1 title by pitching a perfect game with 10 strikeouts and going 2-for-3 with an RBI in the title game. For the season, the University of San Diego-bound Sabbatini was 18-0 in the circle with a 0.90 ERA. She also struck out 167 in 117 innings and walked only 12.
C - Sahvanna Jaquish, Redlands East Valley, SeniorJaquish batted .548 with 11 home runs, 48 RBIs and 25 runs scored. The first-team All-CIF-SS D2 player also drew 16 walks and had a 1.786 OPS. She signed with LSU.
C - Maddy Jelenicki, Saugus, JuniorJelenicki batted .576, drove in 31 runs, scored 32 and 21 of her base hits were for extra bases, including nine round-trippers. She struck out just once as the Centurions finished 20-10. She has committed to UCLA.
1B - Rebecca Lee, Pacifica (Garden Grove), Senior

Lee capped her career with .495 batting average, 43 RBIs and and 20 extra base hits and made just two errors out of 192 chances. She had three homers and nine RBIs in Pacifica's second-round playoff victory over Murrieta Valley. The Ohio State-bound Lee was first-team All-Empire League.
1B - Claire Stucker, Bullard (Fresno), JuniorStucker led the Knights to a 26-8 record, the County/Metro Athletic Conference title and into the Central Section DI final by hitting .528 with nine home runs, 11 doubles, 23 runs and 41 RBIs. The CMAC co-MVP had an on-base percentage of .653 and slugged 1.000. An elbow injury limited her to three games in the circle, where she went 2-0 with a 0.88 ERA in 16 innings. She was the Fresno Bee's Hitter of the Year and has committed to Mississippi State.
IF - Megan Geer, Los Alamitos, SeniorThe versatile Geer hit .446 with 22 hits for extra bases this season. She hit 12 home runs, scored 43 runs and drove in 30 runs. She was named to the All-County first team by OC Varsity, All-Area first team by the Press-Telegram and will attend Tennessee.
IF - Kylie Reed, Norco, SeniorHeaded to Cal, Reed batted .563 and set a new CIF Southern Section record with 72 hits. She had 210 career hits. She also scored 40 runs for the second straight year. She was named California's Miss Softball and the Press-Enterprise's Player of the Year.
IF - Brianna Tautalafua, Carson, SophomoreNamed the Torrance Monica Breeze's Player of the Year, Tautalafua batted .587 (54 for 92) with 15 homers, 59 RBIs, 50 runs scored, 13 doubles and two triples. She has committed to UCLA.
IF - Ali Aguilar, Casa Roble (Orangevale), SeniorAguilar batted .500, with 12 doubles, eight home runs and 30 RBIs. After leading Casa Robles to another Sac Joaquin Section title, Aguilar hit two home runs in the Optimist All-Star game. She was the only high school player selected for the Under-19 USA Team. She will attend Washington.
IF - Jazmyn Jackson, Archbishop Mitty (San Jose), JuniorJackson led Mitty with big numbers — .532 batting average, 41 runs, 50 hits, 28 RBIs and 15 stolen bases. She went hitless in only two games for the 27-1 Monarchs. She has committed to Cal.
IF - Kylee Perez, Alhambra (Martinez), JuniorPerez finished 2013 with a .618 batting average, .691 on base, 42 hits, 51 RBIs, 46 runs, 12 home runs, 18 steals, and one error. She has committed to UCLA.
IF - Delaney Spaulding, Etiwanda, SeniorThe UCLA-bound senior hit .511 with 10 home runs, 36 RBIs and 45 runs scored as a senior. The All-CIF selection led Etiwanda to the quarterfinals, had a .571 on-base percentage and a 1.022 slugging percentage.

After being named the State Sophomore and Junior of the Year for 2011 and 2012, Maurice suffered an injury that cost her the final seven games of her senior season. Still, she finished with a .660 batting average with 20 runs and 20 RBIs. The UCLA-bound standout hit safely in all 19 games she played and did not strike out.
IF - Lucy Lopez, Stockdale (Bakersfield), SophomoreNamed the Bakersfield Californian Player of the Year, Lopez batted .630 (.657 OBP), had 58 hits, scored 30 runs and drove in 20.
OF - Alyssa Palomino, Mission Viejo, SophomorePalomino's 18 home runs tied her for the state lead this season. Besides the 18 homers, she hit .522 with nine doubles, two triples, 33 RBIs and 50 runs scored. The Orange County Register's Player of the Year has committed to Arizona.
OF - Amanda Lorenz, Moorpark, SophomoreThe 5-foot-5 sophomore was a pitcher's nightmare from the leadoff spot. Lorenz batted .625 with 50 hits, 17 home runs, nine doubles, 45 runs scored and 40 RBIs. She had a slugging percentage of 1.375 and made no errors on defense to help Moorpark capture its first outright Marmonte League title. Lorenz was named the league's Most Valuable Player and was a first-team All-CIF selection. Named the Ventura County Star Player of the Year, Lorenz has committed to the University of Florida.
OF - Karley Wester, Edison (Huntington Beach), SeniorA four-time All-Orange County selection, Wester finished with 169 career hits, second only to Rosary's Kaitlin Cochran (187) and Foothill's Caitlin Lowe (185) on the Orange County list. She also had 120 career runs and 81 career stolen bases. As a senior, she hit .421 with 20 stolen bases, 31 runs and 24 RBIs this season. Bound for Notre Dame, Wester made the All-Sunset League first team.
OF - Jade Vecvanags, Orange Lutheran, SeniorThe Illinois-bound senior was also named to the Orange County Register first team for the second consecutive season. She led the Lancers to the CIF Southern Section DI quarterfinals, Vecvanags went 19-5 with a 1.26 ERA, five shutouts and 176 strikeouts in 144 innings pitched. She batted .444 on 48 hits, with nine home runs and 30 RBIs. She did not make an error.
UTIL - Raeann Garza, Logan (Union City), SeniorGarza finished 21-1 with a 0.85 ERA and 128 strikeouts in 140 innings pitched and led Union to another Section DI title. She had one no-hitter and four one-hitters. At the plate, she hit .412 with six doubles and 23 RBIs. She is the Contra Costa Times East Bay Player of the Year. She will play for Ohlone College in 2014.
UTIL - Sierra Hyland, El Diamante (Visalia), SeniorA four-time Tulare County Player of the Year, Hyland recorded a 24-1 pitching record to give her 101 wins in her career, three shy of the Central Section record. She had 221 strikeouts in 169.2 innings and a 1.16 ERA. She hit seven home runs, raising her career total to 28, two shy of the Central Section record. The Cal-Poly commit drove in 37 RBIs while batting .490 with 37 runs scored.
UTIL - Malia Rivers, Heritage (Brentwood), SeniorRivers had 42 stolen bases, .633 OBP, .772 slugging, .595 BA, 33 runs and 25 RBIs. Headed to Georgia, Rivers was the Bay Valley Athletic League MVP as the Patriots took second in league play and advanced to the NCS DI quarterfinals.
