Softball Recap: Deridder Wins Going Away Against Leesville

DeRidder barely beat Leesville the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Dragons were the clear victors by a 13-7 margin over the Wampus Cats on Tuesday. The Dragons haven't had any issues with the Wampus Cats recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.

Laila Roberson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and three unearned) runs on five hits and racked up six Ks.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Hailey Johnson, who went 3-for-5 with five RBI, three doubles, and one run. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Alyssa Hall, who scored a run and stole a base while going 3-for-5.

Johnson wasn't the only one working in the hit department: DeRidder kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. The Dragons are 4-2 when they post 11 or more hits.

DeRidder's victory bumped their record up to 11-14. As for Leesville, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost seven of their last nine matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-9 record this season.

DeRidder will face off against LaGrange at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Leesville, they will challenge Washington-Marion at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Charging Indians have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 16.38 runs per game on average), something the Wampus Cats will no doubt try to take advantage of.
