Softball Recap: Wednesday's Victory Is Wheeler's 15th in Last 18 Outings

It's playoff time, and Wheeler had no trouble coming through when it counted. They put the hurt on the Pine Grove Panthers with a sharp 8-2 victory on Wednesday. The Eagles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 16 matchups by six runs or more this season.

Marli Kate Shockley made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out 12 over seven innings pitched. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 5.1 strikeouts per game. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Shockley wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Kinsley Williams, who went 1-for-2 with two runs. Kenzie Shaw was another, going 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

Wheeler hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least three batters in four consecutive contests.

Wheeler has been performing well recently as they've won 15 of their last 18 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-7 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.6 runs on average over those games. As for Pine Grove, their loss dropped their record down to 15-14.

As of now, neither Wheeler nor the Panthers have any future games scheduled.
