Basketball Recap: Lower Richland Beats Lakewood for Their Fifth Straight Victory

Lower Richland extended their winning streak to five games thanks to a huge performance from Jhnai Sumter. The Lower Richland Diamond Hornets simply couldn't be stopped on Tuesday as they easily beat the Lakewood Gators 64-32 thanks in part to Sumter, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and 12 rebounds. What's more, she also racked up seven steals, the most she's had since back in January of 2024.

Mikayla Foster was another key player, going 5 of 9 on her way to 13 points. She has been hot, having also posted two or more steals the last six times she's played.

Despite the loss, Lakewood had strong showings from Zakiya Hodge, who posted ten points, and Lauryn Nesmith, who scored nine points.

Lower Richland pushed their record up to 14-1 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.7 points per game. As for Lakewood, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost seven of their last eight matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-10 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Lower Richland will head out to take on South Florence at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Lower Richland's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last three contests. As for Lakewood, they will venture away from home to square off against Hartsville at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Lakewood is facing Hartsville at the right time seeing as Hartsville is stuck on a five-game losing streak.
