The Maury Commodores will venture away from home to square off against the Godwin Eagles at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Maury is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.8 runs per game this season.
Maury's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They put the hurt on Manor with a sharp 18-0 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Commodores.
Foster Harris and Casey Deshazo made a splash while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Harris tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Deshazo kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out ten over four innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in seven consecutive appearances. At bat, Harris went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI, while Deshazo went 1-for-3 with three RBI and one double. Those two hits gave Harris a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Landen Hall, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, six RBI, and three runs. He also put up a triple, which was his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Lee Garris, who went 2-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base.
Freeman typically has all the answers at home, but on Friday Godwin proved too difficult a challenge. They walked away with a 6-3 win over the Mavericks. The Eagles haven't had any issues with the Mavericks recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.
Like Maury, Godwin also got a great game from a two-way player: Jacob Babcock. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Babcock was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with five RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Alex Boyd was incredible, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Matthew Hartsfield was another key player, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.
Maury's record now sits at 8-5. As for Godwin, their record is now 16-3.
Wednesday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Maury hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .388. However, it's not like Godwin struggles in that department as they've averaged .338. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
