Volleyball Recap: Sumner's Undefeated Season over After Seven Games

If Sumner was riding high fresh off their 3-0 takedown of Bonney Lake last Wednesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Spartans came up short against the Curtis Vikings on Tuesday, falling 3-0. The loss continues a trend for the Spartans in their meetings with the Vikings: they've now lost eight in a row.

Sumner was held off the scoreboard, but that almost wasn't the case: they kept the third set very close. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-20, 25-13, 25-22.

Their offense was headlined by Rylee Insley and Bryn Kastberg, who picked up four kills apiece. They got some help from Casi Wicklander and her eight assists. Kastberg was also solid from the service line: she led the team with two aces.

Having lost for the first time this season, Sumner fell to 6-1. As for Curtis, their victory bumped their record up to 8-1.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. Sumner will take on Rogers at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday. As for Curtis, they will challenge Emerald Ridge at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday. The Jaguars will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something the Vikings surely won't give up without a fight.
