PikeView is 0-4 against Independence since May of 2021 but things could change on Wednesday. PikeView is taking a road trip to square off against Independence at 5:30 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
Last Friday, PikeView made easy work of Van and carried off a 15-4 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Panthers.

Emma Compton made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed five innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. Compton was even better at the plate, going 1-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Cora Belcher was a standout: she scored three runs and stole three bases while going 2-for-3. Shelby Maddox was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
PikeView kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Van only managed six hits.
Meanwhile, Independence put another one in the bag on Saturday to keep their perfect season alive. They were the clear victors by a 10-2 margin over Greenbrier East. Fans of the Patriots have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 6+ runs.
Like PikeView, Independence also got a great game from a two-way player: Paytin Brehm. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out six over five innings pitched. What's more, Brehm gave up only zero earned runs, the fewest she's had since back in April of 2024. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ava Parks, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. Acasia Cook also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Independence pushed their record up to 4-0 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 14.3 runs this season. As for PikeView, their record is now 2-0.
PikeView suffered a grim 9-1 defeat to Independence in their previous meeting back in April of 2022. Can PikeView avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
