Basketball Game Preview: Simeon Wolverines vs. Evergreen Park Mustangs

Simeon is on a three-game streak of home wins, while Evergreen Park is on a four-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Simeon Wolverines will welcome the Evergreen Park Mustangs at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.

Simeon is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. They took their game with ease, bagging an 83-26 win over Comer. The Wolverines' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

Janiya Pillow was nothing short of spectacular: she dropped a double-double with 17 points and ten steals. She has been hot for a while, having posted two or more steals the last 21 times she's played. Gabby Howard was another key player, going 6-for-13 en route to 13 points and three steals.

Simeon was working as a unit and finished the game with 16 assists. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.5 assists per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 matchups they've averaged 10.2.

Meanwhile, Evergreen Park humbled Chicago Vocational with a 76-25 victory. The Mustangs have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 13 contests by 20 points or more this season.

Evergreen Park has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine games, which provided a nice bump to their 21-10 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.1 points over those games. As for Simeon, they now have a winning record of 15-14.

Simeon strolled past Evergreen Park when the teams last played back in November of 2016 by a score of 56-38. Will Simeon repeat their success, or does Evergreen Park have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
