Softball Game Preview: Grenada Chargers vs. Center Hill Mustangs

Grenada is a perfect 4-0 against Center Hill since April of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Chargers will be playing at home against the Mustangs at 7:00 p.m. Grenada is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.4 runs per game this season.

Last Tuesday, Grenada made easy work of Yazoo County and carried off a 9-1 win. Considering the Chargers have won ten games by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Mary Taylour Wilbourn made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 16 over seven innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in March. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. That run was her first of the season.

Wilbourn wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Lillian Mattox, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI.

Meanwhile, it was close, but on Tuesday Center Hill sidestepped Lake Cormorant for a 3-2 victory. The win continues a trend for the Mustangs in their matchups with Lake Cormorant: they've now won three in a row.

Grenada is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-8 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Center Hill, their win bumped their record up to 6-13.

Grenada was able to grind out a solid victory over Center Hill in their previous meeting back in March, winning 7-4. Will the Chargers repeat their success, or do the Mustangs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
