Basketball Recap: Burke County Find Success

Burke County hadn't done well against Butler recently (they were 0-3 in their previous three matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Burke County Bears slipped by the Butler Bulldogs 70-69. The win was familiar territory for the Bears who have now won four matches in a row.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Burke County to victory, but perhaps none more so than De'Quayvian Lovette, who went 8 for 18 on his way to 19 points and seven boards. Lovette's evening made it five games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of La'Quinton Morgan, who almost dropped a double-double on 17 points and nine assists.

Burke County smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in six consecutive games.

Burke County's victory was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 10-2. As for Butler, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 7-8.

Burke County wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 77-74 win against Screven County on the 18th. As for Butler, they will face off against Thomson at 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Thomson's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last five matchups.
