Game recap: Clovis High School Football Team bests Clovis North

CLOVIS, Calif. - Clovis North (Fresno, Calif.) came into Saturday's contest ranked No. 13 in California, but was stunned by Clovis (Calif.), 38-33. Clovis was ranked at No. 31 in the MaxPreps Freeman Rankings for California coming into the week.

The Cougars were up 17-7 at the half after taking the lead on a touchdown pass by Jake Gatewood to Todd Nelson in the second quarter.

Clovis expanded its lead to 18 points entering the fourth quarter. CHS scored two times in the third, including once on a C.J. Broussard touchdown pass to Logan Poisall.

The Cougars led by as many as 18 points before the Broncos cut into the final margin.

Christian Rossi played well for Clovis North. The senior quarterback threw four touchdowns and ran for one touchdown.

Gatewood was the top performer for Clovis. The junior quarterback threw two touchdowns.



When the two teams played each other last season, CHS came away with a 27-21 victory.

The defeat comes as a step back for Clovis North, which notched a 50-7 victory over Central in its previous outing.

Clovis (8-1) goes up against Clovis West in a Tri-River game matchup next week, while Clovis North (8-1) locks horns with Buchanan also in a Tri-River game.
