Football Game Preview: Quitman Panthers vs. Magee Trojans + How To Watch

The Quitman Panthers will square off against the Magee Trojans at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Quitman knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 31 points or more in their past four contests -- so hopefully Magee likes a good challenge.

Last Friday, Quitman blew past St. Andrew's Episcopal, posting a 42-8 win. The Panthers' offense checked out after the first half but had enough points banked to take the game anyway.

Quitman had a senior duo take command as Bryce Gavin threw for 144 yards and three touchdowns and Shunzarious Dear picked up 63 receiving yards and three TDs. Gavin has become a key player for the Panthers: the team is undefeated when he posts at least three passing touchdowns, but 3-4 otherwise.

One reason for the win was Quitman's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for five sacks. Brytyavis Dear was especially locked on to St. Andrew's Episcopal's QB and sacked him twice.

Despite a strong season so far, Magee has seen their luck take a bit of a downturn recently. They were three points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 30-27 heartbreaker at the hands of Seminary. While the Trojans had to settle for second, they closed the game well in the third quarter, where they outscored the Bulldogs 14-0.

Quitman will have to contain Travon Magee as he made an impact in Magee's last game. He threw for 247 yards and a pair of TDs, and also punched in one score on the ground.

Quitman's victory bumped their record up to 6-4. As for Magee, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-3.
