On Friday, Desert Heights Prep took their contest with ease, bagging a 54-6 victory over Valley Lutheran. Considering the Yote have won three matchups by more than 43 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Desert Heights Prep's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Justin Aguon led the charge by rushing for 124 yards and a pair of scores on only six carries, while also throwing for 58 yards and one TD. The Yote's leading receiver Mateo Kindler was Aguon's top target yet again, picking up 40 receiving yards and one touchdown, while also rushing for 83 yards and a pair of TDs on only five carries.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Desert Heights Prep was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 312 rushing yards. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their rushing yard total in three consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Mohave Accelerated faced El Capitan in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Saturday. The Patriots enjoyed a cozy 28-14 win over the Eagles.
Mohave Accelerated found their leader in sophomore Martin Abundiz, who rushed for 121 yards and one score, and also threw for 20 yards and one touchdown. Those 121 rushing yards set a new season-high mark for Abundiz.
Desert Heights Prep's victory bumped their record up to 6-2. As for Mohave Accelerated, their win bumped their record up to 5-3.
Friday's contest might be decided on the ground. Desert Heights Prep has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 191 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Mohave Accelerated struggles in that department as they've been averaging 170.2 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's matchup turns into a tough fight on the ground.
