Basketball Recap: Sumter Takes a Loss

It was a good run, but Sumter unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Tuesday. They came up short against the Blythewood Bengals, falling 71-50. While losing is never fun, the Gamecocks can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 72nd, while the Bengals are ranked 15th).

Sumter's defeat was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 8-9. As for Blythewood, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine contests, which provided a nice bump to their 15-3 record this season.

Coincidentally, both will both be playing Ridge View the next time they take the court. Sumter will head out to face Ridge View at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, while Blythewood will host them at 7:30 p.m. on January 21st.
