Basketball Recap: Willis Snaps Five-Game Streak of Losses on the Road

Willis won the last time they faced Caney Creek and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Willis Wildkats came out on top against the Caney Creek Panthers by a score of 71-58. Given the Wildkats' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 410th, while the Panthers are ranked 1047th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Willis got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was SJ Young out in front who almost dropped a double-double on 19 points and nine boards. Young is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last five games he's played. Chandler Beasley was another key player, going 6 for 14 en route to 15 points and five steals.

Willis smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in four consecutive games.

Willis' win ended a five-game drought on the road and puts them at 14-9. As for Caney Creek, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost eight of their last nine matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-20 record this season.

Coincidentally, both will both be playing The Woodlands the next time they take the court. Willis will host The Woodlands at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, while Caney Creek will head out to face them at 7:00 p.m. on January 21st.
