Softball Recap: St. Joseph Takes a Loss

St. Joseph extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to five on Monday, dropping their season record down to 0-3 in the process. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 4-2 heartbreaker at the hands of the St. Catherine's Angels. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Angels this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 15-0 two weeks ago.

As for St. Catherine's, they moved to 4-5 with that win, which also ended their four-game losing streak. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory they have posted against St. Joseph since May 7, 2019.

For St. Catherine's part, Annika Munoz was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits. Munoz has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Londyn Pardo, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season. Another player making a difference was Mandy Deschler, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

Looking ahead, St. Joseph will take on Martin Luther at 4:30 p.m. on May 6. As for St. Catherine's, they wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next matchup, a 2-1 win against St. Thomas More on the 29th.
