Basketball Recap: Southampton Academy Piles Up the Points Against Tidewater Academy

Southampton Academy won the last time they faced Tidewater Academy and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Southampton Academy Raiders blew past the Tidewater Academy Warriors, posting a 61-31 win.

G Applewhite was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 19 points and 11 boards. Applewhite is crushing it when it comes to rebounds: he's pulled down at least nine every time he's taken the court this season. L Arce was another key player, putting up ten points and three steals.

Despite the defeat, Tidewater Academy saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Aydan Phillips posted 19 points. Those 19 points set a new season-high mark for Phillips. The team also got some help courtesy of Danny Starnes, who had five points.

Southampton Academy's victory was their first in the region, bumping their region record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 5-7. As for Tidewater Academy, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost five of their last six games, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-6 record this season.

Southampton Academy wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 65-50 win against Blessed Sacrament-Huguenot on the 9th. As for Tidewater Academy, they will host Rock Church at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Rock Church is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 63.6 points per game this season.
