Team of the Week - Prattville, Ala.
Prattville ended Hoover's run of four-straight Alabama 6A state titles Saturday night in front of 30,000 fans at Birmingham's Legion Field.
The win capped a 15-0 season for the Lions, who moved to No. 7 in MaxPreps' National Rankings Monday. Prattville's triumph came in surprisingly easy fashion, holding a three-touchdown lead until Hoover scored in the final minute to bring the final score to 35-21.
Quarterback Larry Smith led the charge, tallying 195 passing and rushing yards. Smith finished his senior campaign with 2,465 yards and 21 touchdowns through the air, and another 670 yards and five touchdowns on the ground.
Junior running back Justin Albert added 153 rushing yards and three touchdowns in the championship game.
Special Mention - Lakeland, Fla.
Lakeland, MaxPreps' preseason No. 1 nationally, completed its third-straight undefeated season culminating with a 5A title by outlasting St. Thomas Aquinas, 45-42, in double overtime.
The Dreadnaughts, who got 276 yards and three touchdowns on the ground from Chris Rainey in the win, extended their winning streak to 45-straight games, and won their sixth state football title overall.
Max Performer of the Week - Paul Weatheroy, Jesuit, Ore.
Weatheroy, a 6-0, 193-pound senior running back, simply took over Oregon's 6A title game, carrying the ball 30 times for 292 yards - including 249 in the first half - and four touchdowns in Jesuit's 56-7 win over Southridge.
The 2006 Crusaders are being called by some the best team in state history, and Weatheroy was a big part of their success, running for 2,608 yards and 38 touchdowns on the season.
Weatheroy's was unstoppable in the postseason, piling up over 1,000 yards in Jesuit's four playoff games alone.
The Crusaders outscored opponents 635-118 (48-9 per game) in compiling a 13-0 record this season, and won every contest by 14 points or more.
