Recap: New Kent Trojans vs. Lafayette Rams
The New Kent Trojans waltzed into their contest on Friday with three straight wins but they left with four. They secured a 75-71 W over Lafayette. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Kyle Diggs continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a double-double on 18 points and 16 rebounds. Will Ross was another key contributor, scoring 14 points.
When it comes to explaining why Lafayette lost, one person who can't be blamed is Jarquez Garrett. Despite the final result, he scored 18 points along with nine assists and seven steals. Garrett has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last ten times he's played. Another player making a difference was Asa Fehrenbach, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 11 rebounds.
Even though they lost, Lafayette smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
New Kent's win bumped their record up to 10-2. As for Lafayette, their loss ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 9-3.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. New Kent will take on York at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. York will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Virginia Rankings (they are ranked 231st, while New Kent is ranked 51st). As for Lafayette, they will look to defend their home court on Wednesday against Warhill at 7:00 p.m.
