Basketball Recap: Monticello Buckaroo vs. Grand County Red Devils

Monticello played a tough contest on Tuesday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were dealt a 62-31 defeat at the hands of the Grand County Red Devils. The Buckaroo haven't had much luck with the Red Devils recently, as the team's come up short the last eight times they've met.

Despite the loss, Monticello saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Maron Freestone went 6 for 11 en route to 19 points. Samantha Mcdonald also deserves some recognition as she posted her first assist of the season.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Grand County to victory, but perhaps none more so than Gemma Phillips, who dropped a triple-double on 14 points, 11 boards, and ten steals. Those ten steals gave Phillips a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Trinity Bryant, who posted 18 points and five steals.

Monticello's defeat dropped their record down to 3-14. As for Grand County, they have been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight matches, which provided a nice bump to their 11-7 record this season.
