Softball Recap: Frontier Comes Up Short

Frontier had lost three straight at home, but on Friday they dropped their record down to 21-5 to make it four. They fell just short of the St. Marys Blue Devils by a score of 3-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Cougars have suffered since April 22nd.

Kaycee Berentz spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on six hits and racked up ten Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Frontier saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kate Congleton, who went 1-for-3 with one run.

As for St. Marys, they are on a roll lately: they've won 15 of their last 16 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 26-5 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.1 runs on average over those games.

On St. Marys' side, Cali Masters made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out 11 over seven innings pitched. Masters was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Frontier does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for St. Marys, they wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 1-0 loss against Oak Glen on the 19th.
