Newton and Robinson are an even 5-5 against one another since October of 2014, but not for long. The Newton Eagles are taking a road trip to square off against the Robinson Maroons at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Newton is no doubt hoping to put an end to a seven-game streak of away losses dating back to last season.
Having struggled with five losses in a row, Newton finally turned things around against Paris on Friday. They snuck past the Tigers with a 20-14 win.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Robinson). They blew past Lawrenceville, posting a 48-6 victory on the road. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Maroons.
A big part of Robinson's win came down to the chemistry between Reese Johnson and his top target Aj Knoblett. Johnson threw for 213 yards and three touchdowns while completing 87.5% of his passes while Knoblett gained 227 total yards and two touchdowns. Knoblett continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Blake Green was another key player, gaining 94 total yards and two touchdowns.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Robinson was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 204 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in September of 2023.
Newton's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-5. As for Robinson, their record is now 2-4.
Newton came up short against Robinson in their previous matchup back in October of 2023, falling 36-28. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Johnson, who threw for 267 yards and five touchdowns on only 17 passes, and also rushed for 52 yards.
