Football Recap: Rivercrest Colts vs. Forrest City Mustangs
Rivercrest put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They took down the Forrest City Mustangs 48-34. Given the Colts' advantage in MaxPreps' Arkansas football rankings (they are ranked 31st, while the Mustangs are ranked 110th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
A big part of Rivercrest's win came down to the chemistry between Jayden Young and his top target Cavonta Washington. Young gained 175 total yards and five touchdowns while Washington rushed for 181 yards and a touchdown while picking up 8.2 yards per carry. Young also deserves a shoutout for his performance on D, making four total tackles and defending a pass in addition to snagging an interception which he returned one-yard for a touchdown. K.J. Lipsey got in on the action too, returning a kick for a touchdown.
Rivercrest wouldn't let Forrest City keep a hold of the ball as they managed to force two fumbles. Andrew Lomack led the way and forced a all by he. He is also on a roll when it comes to total tackles, as he's now made five or more in the last three games he's played dating back to last season.
Rivercrest's victory was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 3-0. As for Forrest City, they are on a 12-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-4.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Rivercrest will challenge Harrisburg at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Harrisburg focused on turnovers this week as team gave up four last Friday. As for Forrest City, they will face off against Lonoke at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Forrest City has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 102 points over their last three matches.
