Basketball Recap: Paul Bishop Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Global Outreach Charter Academy

Blue Ridge fell on hard times earlier this season, but after back-to-back victories it seems like their luck might finally be changing. They walked away with a 62-51 win over the Global Outreach Charter Academy Kodiaks on Thursday. Given the Fighting Tigers' advantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 176th in South Carolina, while the Kodiaks are ranked 616th in Florida), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Blue Ridge to victory, but perhaps none more so than Paul Bishop, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and 11 boards. Bishop's evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Ty'Korian Campbell, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 16 rebounds.

Blue Ridge smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 24 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in three consecutive matchups.

Global Outreach Charter Academy lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Jensie Lugo-Torres, who posted 13 points. Deshawn Citizen was another key player, putting up eight points along with eight rebounds and five blocks.

Blue Ridge is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 4-8 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.3 points per game. As for Global Outreach Charter Academy, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-10 record this season.

Blue Ridge didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 56-52 defeat against San Jose Prep on the 27th. As for Global Outreach Charter Academy, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 54-40 victory against Patel on the 27th.
