Baseball Game Preview: Layton Lancers vs. Farmington Phoenix

For the second straight game, Layton will face off against Farmington. The Lancers will look to defend their home field on Friday against the Phoenix at 3:30 p.m.

On Wednesday, Layton earned a 7-3 win over Farmington. The Lancers have beaten the Phoenix the last three times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Phoenix has come to flipping the script.

Nik Bielaczyc made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Layton is 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 7-10 otherwise. Bielaczyc was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Bielaczyc wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Fish Manning, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Manning has become a key player for Layton: the team is 6-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 3-10 otherwise. Will Hoffman was another, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run.

Layton's victory bumped their record up to 9-11. As for Farmington, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-16 record this season.
