The Corner Yellow Jackets will take on the Jasper Vikings at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Corner is headed into the contest having just posted their closest win since February 22nd on Tuesday. They had just enough and edged out Hueytown 7-6.
Lilly Perkins spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and four unearned) runs on ten hits. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than one walk in eight consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Adalyn Owens, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in February. The team also got some help courtesy of Crimson Erwin, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.
Owens wasn't the only one working in the home run department: Corner lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now launched at least two home runs in three consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Jasper). They were the clear victors by an 11-2 margin over Mortimer Jordan on Tuesday. The Vikings haven't had any issues with the Blue Devils recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.
DeCaleigh Calvin was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, six RBI, and two runs. Lexi Kilgore was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.
Jasper pushed their record up to 14-8 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of three runs across that stretch. As for Corner, their victory bumped their record up to 7-12-1.
