Baseball Recap: Goose Creek Comes Up Short

Goose Creek had lost six straight on the road, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 4-15-2 to make it seven. They lost 10-0 to the Stratford Knights. If the Gators were looking for revenge after losing 5-1 to the Knights when the teams met back in April of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Goose Creek saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was KJ Redbuck, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one double. That double marked the first that Redbuck has hit this season.

As for Stratford, they are on a roll lately: they've won 15 of their last 17 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-4-2 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.6 runs over those games.

On Stratford's side, Jacob Deacon tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run while striking out eight over five innings pitched. Deacon has been consistent: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Jason Smith was a standout: he got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Bryce Herpolsheimer, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.

While Goose Creek had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
